ヨアミ属Siriellaのモノグラフで、173ページの大論文です（厚みが1cm近くあります）。15新種を含む67種が掲載され、図は35枚に及びます。
このうち日本産の種類は29種（うち新種3）でした。
アミ類というのは、プランクトンとして知られるエビ型の小型甲殻類で、世界から約1000種、日本から約200種が知られています。
ヨアミ属の多くは沿岸性で、昼間は海底近くにいて、夜間に表層近くにまで泳ぎ出します。夜にプランクトンによく採れます。だから「夜あみ」なのでしょう。この和名は「日本産海洋プランクトン検索図説（東海大出版，1997）」のなかで村野先生が提唱されています。
